Each quarter, Brazoria County Alliance for Children recognizes one of our key volunteers whose commitment and support makes a crucial difference in our ability to provide programs and services for children in Brazoria County. This quarter BCAC would like to recognize and honor Delores Fenwick.
Delores currently serves as the Chair of our Community Partners program, which provides services and assistance to children within the foster care and Children’s Protective Service system. Delores has volunteered her services to BCAC for over 6 years as both a volunteer and a board member.
Delores has lived in Pearland for over 30 years. She and her husband Garvis have 3 sons,1 daughter and 7 grandchildren. As a long time Pearland resident, Delores Fenwick exemplifies the volunteer and leadership spirit that every organization and community needs to be successful. Delores’ involvement reaches many facets of the community as shown below:

• One of the founding board members of the Clean Pearland Committee (now Keep Pearland Beautiful)
• Member of the Board of Directors, Pearland Area Chamber of Commerce, including three years as Vice President.
• Member of the board of directors and planning committee for the United Way of Brazoria County.
• Member of the Board of Directors for the Vic Coppinger YMCA
• Past member and president of the League of Women Voters of the Pearland area.
• Member of the board of directors for the Adult Reading Center of Pearland
• Charter member of the Pearland Exchange Club, including one year as President

For over forty years Delores Fenwick has been a member of First United Methodist Church of Pearland and has served on countless committees that range from counting offerings on Sunday to Staff/Parish relationships.

Delores is one of those unique individuals whose passion and caring have been integral to the success of our organization and the community. The children of Brazoria County and the volunteers and staff of Community Partners and Brazoria County Alliance for Children salute you for your dedication and service!

Brazoria County Community members,

As we move into 2011, we hope that the citizens of Brazoria County have a prosperous and happy new year!

However, for many of our youngest citizens, this won’t be the case. Child abuse and neglect are preventable, yet each year in the state of Texas, close to 70,000 children are confirmed victims of child maltreatment. Research has shown that crimes involving children are the most under-reported types of crimes in the country, and there are many instances of child abuse that go unreported each year. Child abuse and neglect have long-lasting effects on children, their families and society. Adverse consequences for children are evident immediately, including physical, emotional, social and cognitive effects. For many children, these effects extend far beyond childhood into adolescence and adulthood, potentially impacting their abilities to live healthy, productive lives.

Brazoria County Alliance for Children (BCAC) is committed to administering programs and promoting policies and legislation that help respond to and prevent child abuse and neglect. We believe that collaboration is the most effective way to assist children and we work with over 23 local agencies to address the issue of child abuse in Brazoria County. We also believe that a dual approach of prevention and intervention is critical to the mission of reducing child abuse in our county. Community education in combination with evidence-based programs and services is the best way to prevent maltreatment. These programs and services comprise the very heart and soul of BCAC as we work together to make a real difference in the lives of child abuse victims.

For those who have supported BCAC in the past, we thank you for being a critical part of our team to battle this pervasive problem. If you haven’t participated with our organization, we ask you to consider Brazoria County Alliance for Children as one of your top charitable options in 2011. Join us today and make a difference in the life of a child!

Judy Tomlin
Brazoria County Alliance for Children
Board President
