Description:
Provide crisis intervention, education and support to clients and their non-offending caregivers. Provide assistance with intake paperwork as well as providing general information and referrals to clients. Monitor case progress and facilitate case coordination throughout the entire investigative/legal process. Interview child victims of sexual and serious physical abuse brought to the Brazoria County Alliance for Children by law enforcement or child protection investigators. Participates as an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and makes recommendations for various client services as needed.

Family Advocate Duties:
- Assist families with their crisis intervention needs, including on-site counseling, assessment of family needs and referrals
- Inform families of case progress and serve as a liaison between families and partner agencies
- Recommend immediate services, including, but not limited to therapeutic and medical referrals
- Coordinate referrals and the provision of immediate services, including, but not limited to therapeutic and medical referrals
- Familiarize non-offending parents with the investigative, treatment and legal processes
- Ongoing case management and follow up
- Documentation of case activities
- Conduct interviews of child sexual and physical abuse victims, utilizing interview aids (anatomical dolls/and or drawings, items for drawing, items that put the child at ease) as appropriate
- Assess children's cognitive and linguistic abilities as well as non-verbal communications
- Foster an environment that is sensitive to a child's cognitive, emotional and psychological development, without leading a child in questioning
- Schedule interviews with law enforcement and Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS) investigators
- Assist DFPS, law enforcement and other professionals with information that will benefit the child victim
- Assist in maintaining records of services provided
- Participate in multi-disciplinary team review meetings concerning children who have been interviewed
- Testify as a witness in civil and criminal trials regarding the child's statement
- Maintain all client records in accordance with agency requirements
- Participate in CAC Teams as required
- Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all client information
- Participate in at least 2 peer review sessions per year
- Keep updated on current literature regarding relevant issues pertaining to child abuse
- Attend local, state, and national trainings/conferences on child abuse as required
- Participate in on-call rotation for emergency services as needed
- Provide assistance to Program Director as needed
- Perform other tasks as requested by the Program Director and/or Executive Director
- Minimum of an Bachelor's degree required
- Prior experience working in social services preferred
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Must pass a criminal history check, child abuse registry check, and sex offender registry check
